QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT BE ASKING YOURSELF
- WHAT WILL MY FIRST SESSION BE LIKE?
In our first session, we move gently. There’s no expectation to tell your whole story or go into anything before you’re ready. We spend time getting a sense of what’s been happening for you, what you’re hoping for, and what helps you feel safe. My approach is warm, steady, and trauma‑informed — I pay close attention to pacing and to how your body responds as we talk. You’re welcome to ask questions, take your time, or pause whenever you need. The aim of the first session is simply to see whether this feels like a supportive space for you, and to begin shaping the work together.
- HOW DO I KNOW IF YOU’RE THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR ME?
It’s completely okay not to know straight away. The first session is a chance for us to get a sense of each other and see whether the space feels supportive for you. You might notice how comfortable you feel talking with me, whether you feel listened to, and whether my way of working makes sense for what you need. There’s no pressure to commit — you’re welcome to take your time and decide at your own pace.
- DO YOU WORK WITH NEURODIVERGENT CLIENTS?
Yes. I work in a neurodiversity‑affirming way and welcome clients who are autistic, ADHD, AuDHD, or exploring their neurodivergence. I pay close attention to sensory needs, pacing, communication preferences, and the impact of masking or burnout. You don’t need to present in any particular way — we shape the space around what helps you feel safe and understood.
- WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE?
Life happens, and sometimes plans change. If you need to cancel or move a session, just let me know as soon as you can. I have a 48‑hour cancellation policy, which means sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are usually charged in full. This helps me keep the practice sustainable and hold your reserved time each week. If something unexpected happens, we can talk about it.
- WHAT IF I’VE HAD DIFFICULT EXPERIENCES IN THERAPY BEFORE?
You’re not alone — many people come to me after therapy that felt rushed, invalidating, or simply not the right fit. We can go gently and at your pace. You’re welcome to tell me as much or as little as you want about past experiences. I’ll be attentive to what didn’t feel safe before, and we’ll work together to create a space that feels steadier, more collaborative, and more attuned to you.
- IS EVERYTHING CONFIDENTIAL?
Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential. There are a few specific situations where I may need to break confidentiality to keep you or someone else safe — for example, if there is serious risk of harm, or if required by law. If this ever became relevant, I would always aim to talk with you about it first. Your privacy and trust are central to the work.
- WHAT IF I’M IN CRISIS?
I’m not able to offer crisis or emergency support. If you feel unsafe, overwhelmed, or at risk, it’s important to reach out to someone who can offer immediate help — whether that’s a trusted person in your life, your GP, or emergency services. We can talk in our sessions about what helps you feel supported during difficult moments and create a plan that feels right for you.
- CAN I END THERAPY AT ANY TIME?
Yes. You’re free to end therapy whenever you choose, and you don’t need to justify your decision. If possible, I encourage having a final session so we can reflect on what you’re taking from the work and end in a grounded way — but the choice is always yours.
It’s also completely normal for therapy to feel challenging at times. When we touch on painful or important parts of your life, it can bring up discomfort, doubt, or a sense of wanting to pull away. Many people experience moments where they wonder
if they should stop. If this happens, it doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong — it can actually be an important part of
the process. You’re welcome to bring those feelings into the room so we can explore them together at your pace. Often, these moments open up meaningful insight and help us understand what you need to feel safer and more supported
